Mrs. Helen Virginia Long Goddard age 91 of Rocky Mount and formerly of Seaboard died Sunday, April 13, 2014 at Wilson Memorial Hospital in Wilson, NC.
Mrs. Goddard was born June 10, 1922 in rural Seaboard, NC, the daughter of the late Jenus Greene Long and Laura Gay Long. She was a graduate of Seaboard High School and received two certificates from Chowan College. There she met and later married S.L. Goddard. They lived for nearly forty years in Riverdale, Maryland until retirement brought them back to Seaboard. The last few years she spent with her granddaughter.
She was predeceased by her husband, S.L. Goddard and a brother, J.G. Long Jr.
She is survived by her two sons, Samuel L. Goddard Jr. of Ringgold, VA and Ronnie Goddard of Sharpsburg, NC. Five grandchildren, Rich Goddard (Jen) of Greenville, NC, Rob Goddard (Angie) of Tupelo, Mississippi, Thomas Goddard (Angela) of Danville, VA, Mike Goddard of Germantown, Maryland and Tarina G. Daughtridge (Wesley) of Rocky Mount, NC. Seven great grandchildren, Matthew, Seth, Olivia Virgina, Skyla, Rallye, Cole and Rayce. Her sister, Inez L. Bryner, her brother, Joseph Long, and their families, and the family of her deceased brother J.G.
Funeral services will be held Thursday, April 17, 2014 at 2:00 PM at
Concord United Methodist Church with Rev. Helen Burtchell officiating. Burial will follow at Seaboard Cemetery.
The family will receive friends at the church beginning at 1:00 PM until service time on Thursday.
Memorial contributions may be made to Concord United Methodist Church.
