Mrs. Shirley Ann Warrick Taylor age 87 died Wednesday, April 30, 2014 at her home.
Mrs. Taylor was born September 24, 1926 in Northampton County, NC, the daughter of the late Clyde Quincy Warrick and Lynn Warrick. She was also predeceased by her husband Andrew Taylor, her brother, Joseph Warrick and her sister Edith Warrick Bunn Edwards.
Mrs. Taylor enjoyed cooking, canning reading (was reading a book a day during the last several months of her life until her health made reading impossible), crossword puzzles, and telling stories about the “old days” growing up in Seaboard. She loved sitting at her kitchen table and watching the birds and squirrels eating at one of her many birdfeeders or splashing around in her heated birdbath. She especially enjoyed spending time with her boys and her grandchildren. One of her greatest achievements was completing her book “Over My Shoulder” which was an account of life in Seaboard. She also wrote a book of Children’s Poems which will be forever cherished by her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren.
Although she was no longer an active member of the church, she taught Sunday school for many years at Seaboard Methodist Church where many of her “students’ considered her the best teacher they ever had.
She is survived by her sons, Steve Taylor and his wife Pat of Raleigh, NC Gene Taylor and his wife Louise of Gumberry, NC. Her grandchildren, Andy Taylor (Becky) of Wilmington, NC, Angie Taylor Rider of Johnson City, TN, Quincy Taylor Caspar (Jason) of Fuquay Varina, NC, Edward Taylor of Gumberry, NC and Zachary Taylor (Rachel) of Cary, NC. Her step grandchildren, Wendy Gatewood (Chris) of Clayton, NC and Ron Pippen (Sherry) of Elizabeth City, NC. Her great grandchildren, Anna Rose Taylor of Wilmington, NC, Jack Caspar and Carolina Caspar, both of Fuquay Varina, NC. Her step great grandchildren, Markham Gatewood and Andrew Gatewood, both of Clayton, NC. Also Laverne Suggs and Taneka Rainey who became more than caregivers.
A graveside service will be held Saturday, May 3, 2014 at 11:00 AM at the Taylor Family Cemetery, Hwy 186, Gumberry, NC with Rev. Bobby Harrell officiating.
The family will receive friends after the service at the home.
