
Harvey Wagner Taylor, Jr.
Devoted father and community servant
He was a life-long resident of Roanoke Rapids.
Harvey graduated from Roanoke Rapids High School and attended business school in Richmond, VA.
He enlisted in the U.S. Navy and served his country during World War II on the USS Colorado. He returned to Roanoke Rapids after the war to work as a bookkeeper for J.P. Stevens Company.
A businessman at heart, Harvey retired as controller of Howell Steel, Inc., in Weldon, NC.
He was an active member of Rosemary United Methodist Church where he served as treasurer for many years. He loved his church and the community.
An avid golfer, he was a member of Chockoyotte Country Club in Weldon, NC, and he spent many relaxing hours there.
Harvey is survived by his wife, Doris Clary Taylor; his two sons, Harvey W. Taylor, III and his wife, Randy of Kinston, NC, Steven Curtis Taylor and his wife, Barbara of Goldsboro, NC; three grandchildren, James W. Taylor, Lindzey O’Brien, and Ron Casey.
He cherished his five great-grandchildren, Samantha, Sarah, Benjamin, Fuller, and Olivia. He is also survived by his sister, Nellie Taylor Lyles, and two nephews, Russell Lyles, Jr. and John Taylor.
Funeral Services will be held on Tuesday, November 17, 2015 at 2:00 PM at Rosemary United Methodist Church with Rev. Bob Redmond officiating. Interment will follow in Cedarwood Cemetery in Roanoke Rapids.
The family will receive friends prior to the funeral service at Rosemary United Methodist Church fellowship hall from 1:00 PM until the time of the service.
