Judy Medlin Hand, 72, of Littleton, NC passed away peacefully at her home on July, 13, 2016.
She was the daughter of the late William Bernard and Louis Wright Medlin.
Judy graduated from Roanoke Rapids High School and the University of North Carolina at Greensboro. She taught school at Manning Elementary for five years. Judy also taught Sunday School at First Baptist Church, of Roanoke Rapids from 1980 till 1992, under Dr. W.C. Campbell.
She was also on the advising board at Chowan University while teaching at First Baptist.
Judy taught and led ladies bible study at Calvary United Methodist Church in Littleton for twenty years. Her life-time theme was, “Go ye teach and preach.”
In the thirty five shows Judy was involved in at Lakeland Theater, she won a lifetime achievement award and a best lead actress for her role as “Miss Daisy” in “Driving Miss Daisy.” She also won best supporting actress as, “Truvy” in “Steel Magnolias.”
Judy was Vice President and buyer of several departments for Home Bazaar stores headquartered in Weldon and Roanoke Rapids, NC. She also liked to travel and between work- related trips and vacationsshe visited over sixty countries and all seven continents.
Judy is survived by her husband of fifty years, Bill Hand of the home; Stepmother, Tivie Medlin of Roanoke Rapids, NC; sister, Carolyn Medlin of Carlsbad CA; brother, Donnie Medlin and wife Erlah of Louisburg, NC; Sister, Trica Christenson and her husband, Steven of Campbell, CA; Brother, Ken Medlin and wife, Lisa of Ormond Beach FL, brother, Gary Medlin and his wife Lori of Roanoke Rapids; Sister-in-law, Janet Hill and her husband David of Hatteras, NC, Sister in-law Patsy Mobley and her husband Wayne of Burlington, NC. She was a very special Aunt to all of her nieces and nephews, Carmen Jackson and her husband Roger of Raleigh, NC; Christopher Ward of Campbell, CA, Rachel Ward of L.A.,CA , Kensey Medlin, Dylan Medlin both of FL, Justin Medlin and his wife Melissa and Baby Maci Grace; Garison Medlin, Mira Medlin, of Roanoke Rapids, NC; Wright Medlin of Raleigh and Magen Medlin of New York, NY, David III Hill of Burlington, NC and Kevin Mobley of CA.
Funeral Services will be held on Sunday, July 17, 2016 at 2:00 P.M. in the chapel of Askew Funeral Service with Rev. Stan Lewis and Dr. W. C. Campbell officiating.
Burial will follow at the Calvary United Methodist Church Cemetery in Littleton.
The family will receive friends on Saturday, July 16, 2016 from 7:00 to 8:30 P.M. at Askew Funeral and Cremation Service of Roanoke Rapids, NC.
