Cleveland Levan Keeter, 85, died Saturday, July 23, 2016, at Halifax Regional Medical Center.
He served his country with the United States Marine Corp during the Korean conflict.
After serving his country, Cleveland worked as an Inspector for the North Carolina Department of Transportation and retired after 35 years of service. He was known in the area for playing fast pitch softball with many teams spanning many years and loved playing golf. Cleveland was also a wonderful harmonica player and played with many groups around the area. He was also a long time member of Rosemary Baptist Church.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by three brothers and five sisters.
Surviving is his wife, Barbara C. Keeter, of the home; two sons, Robert Keeter and wife, Barbara, of Roanoke Rapids and Donald Keeter and wife, Angela, of Creedmoor; step-son, Jack Conwell and wife, Vicky, of Roanoke Rapids; two step-daughters, Lisa Mitchell and husband, Brian, of Manteo, NC and Debra Kay Conwell of Kill Devil Hills, NC; one sister, Gladys Wells of Roanoke Rapids and his sister-in-law, Dot Keeter of Newport News, VA; five grandchildren, Keisha Wells, Stephanie Shotwell, Shannon Keeter, Tresa Keeter, and Casey Johnson. Also surviving are five great grandchildren.
The family will receive friends at Hockaday Funeral & Cremation Service Tuesday, July 26, 2016 from 7-9 pm and all other times at the home. Rev. Frank Stansbury will conduct funeral services in the chapel at Hockaday Wednesday, July 27, 2016 at 3:00 pm. Interment will follow in Old Cedarwood Cemetery.
