James Hoccutt 'Brodie' Ferrell

James Hoccutt “Brodie” Ferrell, 93 of 615 East 10th Street died Friday, June 21, 2013 at Enfield Oaks Nursing and Rehabilitation Center.

Mr. Ferrell was born August 13, 1919 in Johnston County to the late James Albert Ferrell and Mollie Williams Ferrell.  He was a veteran of World War II serving in the US Army.  Mr. Ferrell owned and operated Ferrell’s 10th Street Appliance Store for over 65 years.  He brought the first color TV to town.  He was a lifetime member of the Fraternal Order of Eagles and was the first lifeguard in Roanoke Rapids at the Recreation Center.

Mr. Ferrell was preceded in death by his wife: Louise Acree Ferrell; his son: Roland Douglas Ferrell, Sr., his grandson: Michael Wayne Ferrell; his brothers: William “Willie” Ferrell, Chester Ferrell, Albert Leroy Ferrell, Rupert Earl “Pete” Ferrell, Henry “Snooks” Ferrell, Rufus Roland “Teeny” Ferrell and Russell E. Ferrell; his sisters: Margie Ferrell, Rachael Ferrell, Pattie Ferrell, Isabel Ferrell Seuis and Vera Ferrell Barbour.

Mr. Ferrell is survived by his son: Ronney James Ferrell; his daughter: Kathy Ferrell Johnson and her fiancé Marty Gardiner both of Roanoke Rapids; his daughter-in-law: Frances Ferrell Floyd Brewer; his girlfriend of many years Mildred Laverne Thomason; his grandchildren: Jamie Johnson and her boyfriend Bubba Byrum, Doug Ferrell and his wife Sheila, Chris Ferrell and his wife Tammie, Sandy Ferrell Dixon and her husband Jeffrey and Sheila Ferrell King and her husband Phillip; his great grandchildren: Brian Ferrell, David Ferrell and his wife Shareen, Troy Ferrell, Heather Ferrell Bailey and her husband Brandon, Christopher Ferrell and his wife Ashley, Ashley Collins, Cameron Podruchney, Devan Ferrell, Kenan Ferrell and Haley King; his great great grandchildren: Nadia Ferrell, Somer Ferrell, Tylan Bailey and Ryleigh Ferrell.  He is also survived by several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held 2:00 P.M. Sunday, June 23, 2013 at Hockaday Funeral and Cremation Service with Rev. Russ Collins officiating.  The family will receive friends following the service.
