
Betty Shaw Morris, 98, of Roanoke Rapids, died Wednesday, August 31, 2016 at her home.
She was a member of East Tenth Street Church of Christ. She was an accomplished seamstress from the time she was a teenager who made clothes for herself as well as her mother, sisters, daughter and nieces. She enjoyed all types of crafts and has crocheted many scarves and Afghans as well as made many quilts over the years. She was always a farmer at heart and loved gardening. One of her greatest enjoyments was cooking big meals for her family. She has also cooked many meals, cakes and pies for relatives and friends.
She was predeceased by her husband, Marvin Leonidas Morris; sisters, Iona Shaw Rogers, Sadie King and Marjorie Shaw; and brothers, Woodrow W. Shaw, Johnie S. Shaw and Jessie Davis Shaw.
She is survived by her daughter, Sylvia Morris Branch and husband Edward Arthur “Art” of Littleton, NC; two grandsons, Donald Leonidas Griffin and his wife, Sandy of Allen TX and Michael Steven Griffin and fiancé, Joni Sands of Midlothian, VA; and five great-grandchildren, Stephanie Griffin of Plano, TX and Andrea Griffin of Houston, TX, Michelle Griffin of Atlanta, GA, Michael Thomas and Rachel Griffin of Midlothian, VA; a close and faithful niece, Patricia Rogers Tippett, who did many things to help her in many ways during her final years; as well as several nephews and nieces. Her faithful caregivers were Beverly Norman, Evelyn Harper, Dozene Lynch, Angela Norman and Bettie Lynch.
Funeral services will be held 2:30 P.M. Sunday, September 4, 2016 in the chapel of Hockaday Funeral and Cremation Service with Rev. Randy Martin officiating. Burial will follow in Cedarwood Cemetery. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service.
