
David Lewis Lyles, Sr. 98, of East 4th Street, Weldon passed away Wednesday, October 26, 2016 at his home.
Mr. Lyles was born September 9, 1918 in Halifax County to the late Robert Lyles and Julia Pearl Langston Lyles. He was also preceded in death by his brothers, Richard, Robert and Russell Lyles.
David Lyles was WWII Veteran and a Purple Heart recipient. He was a retiree from the Coca Cola Bottling Co after 33 years and worked as a magistrate for the State of NC until retiring in 1996. Mr. Lyles was very active with the Boy Scouts in Weldon, NC from the mid 60's until the mid 70's. He was the last Scout Master for Troop 1 in Weldon, NC. Mr. Lyles was an active member of the United Methodist Church in Weldon. He was a 50 year member of the American Legion and a member of the Halifax Masonic Lodge.
He is survived by his wife, Doris Warren Lyles of the home; his children, David Lewis Lyles, Jr. of Shallotte, NC, Nancy Lyles Kendrick and her husband Steve of Glen Allen, VA, Judy Lyles Wright and her husband Greg of Halifax and James “Jimmy” Lyles and his wife Teresa of Roanoke Rapids; his half-brothers, James Lyles and his wife Cindy, Bobby Lyles and his wife Brenda and his half-sister Sarah Lyles Whitaker all of Lancaster, SC; seven grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held 2:00 P.M. Saturday, October 29, 2016 in the chapel of Hockaday Funeral and Cremation Service with Rev. Sue Owens officiating. Burial will follow in Cedarwood Cemetery, Weldon, NC with Military and Masonic Rites. The family will receive friends from 7:00 – 9:00 P.M. Friday, October 28, 2016 at the funeral home and other times at the home.
