Junius C. Edwards

Mr. Junius C. Edwards age 82, of Galatia Road, Seaboard, NC died Thursday, September 4, 2014 at Vidant Roanoke-Chowan Hospital. 

Mr. Edwards was born August 31, 1932 in Northampton County, NC, the son of the late Willie James Edwards Sr. and Lottie Boone Edwards.  He was also preceded in death by a brother, W.J. Edwards Jr. and a step daughter, Rhonda Meeks Peace.

He was a lifelong member of Galatia Baptist Church. He enjoyed his vegetable garden and really enjoyed sharing his vegetable with neighbors and friends.

He is survived by his wife, June Harrell Edwards.  His daughter, Melissa Edwards Barnes and her husband Glen. A step daughter, Carol M. Davis and her fiancé Chuck Buffaloe. His brother, Rodney Edwards. His sister, Betty Lee Watts. His step granddaughter, Adrienne Pittman and two step great grandchildren, Jordan and Draven Pittman.

A graveside service will be held Sunday, September 7, 2014 at  2:00 PM at Conway Cemetery in Conway, NC with Rev. David Foster officiating.  

The family will receive friends Saturday, September 6, 2014 from 7:00 until 8:30 PM at Galatia Baptist Church Fellowship Hall.

Susan Marie Fisher Neer

Mrs. Susan Marie Fisher Neer age 56, of Roanoke Rapids, NC passed away Friday, September 5, 2014 at her home.

Susan was born September 5, 1958 in Roanoke Rapids, NC, the daughter of the late Robert Lee Fisher and Ruby Viola Carlisle Fisher.

She is survived by her husband, Tracy Neer.  Her sisters, Diane Hux (Charles), Vickie Taylor (Mike), and Patricia Clark (Robert).  Her brother, Robert Fisher, Jr. and his fiance Janice Bryant. A very special niece, Tammie Delvalle and her children, Isabella, Selena, Alex, Marcus and Ethan. Other niece’s and nephews, Michelle Sanderford, Mikie Taylor, Nikki Van Dam, Sharon Miles, and Dennis Gregory Jr.

Funeral services will be held Monday, September 8, 2014 at 2:00 PM at Good Samaritan Baptist Fellowship Church in Roanoke Rapids with Dr. Dennis W. Gregory Sr. and Rev. Dale Eatmon officiating. Burial will follow at Cedarwood Cemetery in Roanoke Rapids.

The family will receive friends Sunday, September 7, 2014 from 4:00 until  6:00 PM at Massey Funeral Home in Roanoke Rapids and other times at the home.

Willard Dempsey 'BAM' Moore

Mr. Willard Dempsey “BAM” Moore, age 83 of Roanoke Rapids, NC passed away Monday, September 8, 2014 at Vidant Medical Center in Greenville, NC.

Mr. Moore was born September 28, 1930 in Sweetwater, Texas, the son of the late Burton Alfred and Beatrice Scales Moore. He was also preceded in death by his stepmother, Lucille Brewer Moore; sister, Patricia Doyle her husband William Doyle; and a grandson, Bryan Moore who passed away young with a brain cancer.

Bam and his family moved from Texas to Emporia, VA where the Moore family was originally from, then to Jarrett, VA while he was at a young age. There he grew up  and worked in his father’s grocery stores, graduated from Jarrett High School and was drafted in the Army serving in Alaska (before it became a state).

After discharge from the Army, Bam moved to Gaston, NC and opened a grocery store and was involved in Moore Bros. Farm Service in Virginia.  There he met and married Marcella.  He sold his business and retired at age 45.

During this time, he was involved in the Lions Club in Gaston where he held several offices including president.  For many years, he was involved in Youth Fellowship, Little League and Babe Ruth Baseball in Roanoke Rapids.  He helped finance the trip to Tennessee when Roanoke Rapids won the first state championship in 1973.

In addition, he has always been involved with sports through officiating baseball, football, softball in the recreation leagues, high schools and some college games.

He is survived by his wife Marcella Wray Moore; daughter, Christine Lynn Brown and husband Lenny; sons, Michael Todd Moore and wife Janet, and Richard Burton Moore and wife Janet; grandchildren, Kenny Goodfellow, Timothy Goodfellow, Kevin Moore, Collin Moore and Steven Moore.

Funeral services will be held Friday, September 12, 2014 at 1:00 PM at Massey Funeral Home in Roanoke Rapids with Rev. Randy Martin officiating.  Burial will follow at Cedarwood Cemetery.

The family will receive friends at Massey Funeral Home, Thursday, September 11, 2014 from 7:00 until 8:30 PM.

Michael T. Showalter

On the morning of  September  11, 2014 God called one of his angels home.  Mr. Michael T. Showalter lost his battle with cancer.

Mike was born on March 21, 1945 in Mt. Clemons, Michigan to the late William “Bill” and Beulah W. Showalter.

Mike was a Lifetime Member of The Safari Club International . He was an avid hunter and fisherman. He served his country in the United States Navy. He was a well respected  businessman and the proud owner of Crestview Memorial Cemetery.

Those left to cherish his memory are his loving wife: Sandra Johnson Showalter; His loyal friend and “Office Wife” Trudy Jones; son: Michael Terry Showalter II. (Jennifer) of Baytown, Texas; daughter :Kendra Showalter Lear(Marty) of Ft. Mill, SC; brother: Dr. Stan Showalter(Janine) of Three Oaks ,Michigan; grandchildren:  Melanie, Chelsee, Jasmine and Jacob Showalter; one great-grandchild.  His mother-in law: Mrs. Ann Johnson; sister-in-laws: Sheila Annazone(Peter), Sylvia Rice (Rich) and Sharon Mohler (Duane); special nieces: Susan Anderson and her children Marrisa and Garrett, Dawn Snyder and husband Brock and daughter Anna, Yvonne Houseman and husband Steven and son Gavin, Morgan Wright and wife Lisa and children Josalyn and Jaxson.  He had many nieces and dear friends that he loved dearly.

Funeral services will be held 3:00 P.M. Sunday, September 14, 2014 at Hockaday Funeral and Cremation Service with Rev. Wesley Agee and Rev. Wayne Marshall officiating.  The family will receive friends from 6:00 – 8:30 P.M. Saturday, September 13, 2014 at the funeral home and other times at the home.  Entombment will follow at Crestview Memorial Cemetery with Military honors.

Margaret 'Corky' Harris McElheney

Margaret “Corky” Harris McElheney, 67, of Roanoke Rapids, passed away on Sunday, September 14, 2014.  She was the daughter of the late Kahzo Lee and Doris Guill Harris.  

She was preceded in death by her brother, Thomas Kahzo Harris.

She is survived by her husband, Charles P. McElheney, Jr.; her son, David Wayne Cook and his wife, Kimberly Connery Cook of Perth, Australia; her sisters, Suzanne Durham and husband, Kenneth of Fort Lauderdale, FL, Nancy Warren and her husband, Ronnie of Danville, VA, Vickie Neal and her husband, Jerry of Ringgold, VA; her step children, Dawn McElheney Porch and her husband Matthew, Shawn McElheney Perkins and her husband, Mark, Charles Preston McElheney, III and his wife, Lindsey; grandchildren, Elizabeth Porch Gardner, Samantha Porch, Catherine Porch, Victoria Porch, Christine Porch, Christopher Perkins, Alex Perkins, Melissa Perkins, Kimberly Perkins, Charles McElheney, IV, Ethan McElheney, Allen Godsey, Natalie McElheney, Madison McElheney, Reagan McElheney; and one great-grandchild, Annabelle Gardner.

Funeral Services will be held on Thursday, September 18, 2014, at 11:00 am in the Chapel of Askew Funeral and Cremation Services officiated by Rev. Jeremy Kobernat.  

Interment will follow in Cedarwood Cemetery in Roanoke Rapids. 

The family will receive friends on Wednesday, September 17, 2014 from 7:00 to 8:30 pm at Askew Funeral and Cremation Services.

Lucille Davis Flythe

Mrs. Lucille Davis Flythe age 94, of Seaboard, NC died Monday, September 15, 2014.

Mrs. Flythe was born September 28, 1919 in Northampton County, NC, the daughter of the late John Thomas Davis and Doshia Daughtry Davis. She was also preceded in death by her husband Jessie C. Flythe.  She was a faithful member of Galatia Baptist Church.

She is survived by her sons, David Earl Flythe and his wife Mary of Franklin, VA and Paul Fleetwood Flythe and his wife Diane of Seaboard, NC.  A sister, Darlee Davis of Seaboard, NC.  Seven grandchildren, Walt Flythe (Kim), David “Chris” Flythe, Paul Flythe Jr. (Patricia), Tina Flythe (Michael), Mary Beth Simmons ( Waylon), Cheryl Hammond and Wayne Hammond.  Her great grandchildren, Cole Flythe, Brady Flythe, Chasity Simmons, Waylon Simmons Jr., Brittaney Flythe, Alyssa Flythe, Kayla Flythe,  John Hammond, Bradley Hammond, Hanna Hammond, Emily Hammond and Noah Hammond. Her great great grandson, Aden Vaughan.

Funeral services will be held Thursday, September 18, 2014 at 

3:00 PM at Galatia Baptist Church with Rev. David Foster and Rev. Lonnie Armstrong officiating. Burial will follow at Seaboard Cemetery.

The family will receive friends Thursday, September 18, 2014 beginning at 1:00 PM until service time at the church.

Memorial contributions may be made to Galatia Baptist Church.

The family would like to thank the staff of Rich Square Health Care Center  and United Hospice for the wonderful and kind care that they gave Mrs. Flythe.

Cody Lee Pearson, age 19 of Pleasant Hill North Carolina passed away on September 13, 2014. 

Cody was born June 9, 1995 in Halifax County North Carolina. He attended Roanoke Rapids High School. He worked for his father’s company at the salvage yard in Emporia, VA. He was preceded in death by his grandfather Carl Steve Pearson, Sr. Cody was a loving son, grandson, brother, nephew and a great friend to many.

Survivors include his mother and father; Sharmon Peterson Pearson and Carl Steve Pearson, Jr.; His sister, Stephanie Pearson of Pleasant Hill, NC; His grandparents, Alice Pearson of Emporia, VA and Kenneth & Mary Peterson of Roanoke Rapids, NC; His aunt, Mary Boney ( Mike) and their children Megan and Matthew; His uncles Ray Peterson ( Wendy) and their children Logan and Kayla, Kenny Waters (Beth) and their children Aaron Waters and  Amanda Jeffers (Matt),  Jimmy Waters and fiance’ Becky, Jimmy’s two children Michael Waters, Steven Waters and their mother Michelle Messer.  Also many loving family and friends.

Funeral services will be held Friday, September 19, 2014 at 2:00 PM at Massey Funeral Home in Roanoke Rapids, NC with Pastor Troy Green officiating. Entombment will follow at Cedarwood Cemetery in Roanoke Rapids, NC.

Debra Garris Burke

Debra Garris Burke, age 58 of Severn, NC passed away Monday, September 15, 2014 at Vidant Medical Center in Greenville, NC.

Debra was born October 11, 1955 in Hertford County, NC.  She was predeceased by her father, Harold L. Garris.  She worked as a Certified Nursing Assistant at Vidant-Roanoke-Chowan Hospital in Ahoskie, NC.

She is survived by her daughter, Ashley Burke Etheridge and her husband Jonathan of Midlothian, VA.  Her mother, Sue Jernigan Garris of Severn, NC.  Her sister, Marie Garris Forney of Greensboro, NC.  Her two grandchildren, Debra Grace and Jonathan Alexander Etheridge.

Funeral services will be held Saturday, September 20, 2014 at 1:00 PM at Severn Baptist Church with Rev. Mark Corbett officiating.  Burial will follow at Severn Cemetery.

The family will receive friends at Massey Funeral Home in Jackson, NC, Friday, September 19, 2014 from 7:00 until 8:30 PM and other times at the home of her mother.

Christopher Lewis 'Christy' Cleaton

Christopher Lewis “Christy” Cleaton, age 86 of Seaboard, NC passed away on September 16, 2014 at his home. 

Christy was born on August 5, 1928 in Northampton County, North Carolina the son of the late Christopher Columbus Cleaton and Johnie Sue Barnes Cleaton. 

Christy was the town clerk for over 20 years. He owned and operated an antique and furniture business in Seaboard for a number of years. Christopher was also a U.S. Army Veteran. 

Survivors include many cousins and friends. 

Graveside services will be held Thursday, September 18, 2014 at 11:00 AM at Seaboard Cemetery with Rev. Rick Barnes officiating. 

Memorial contributions may be made to the Northampton County Museum in Jackson, NC.

Kimberly Ann Bachelder Teague, 47, died, Tuesday, Septeber 16, 2014, at her home on HWY 58 in Warrenton, NC.

Kimberly was born June 10, 1967 in Halifax County to the late Dennis Wade Newton and Connie Dickens Smith.

 She was a very unique person, “What you see, is what you get”, who loved and believed in her family which is evident by the way she kept her home and raised her children.  Kimberly loved her Momma more than life itself and loved her “Pop”, O.G. Smith.  

She was an extreme animal lover and had a unique relationship with her Lord and Savior.  In addition to her father, she was preceded in death by her brother, Timmy Wayne Newton.

Surviving are her husband, George Whalen Teague, Sr,; mother, Connie Smith and husband, O.G.; sons, Nathan and Danny O’Neil; step-son, George Whalen Teague, Jr.; daughter, Lisa Wade Hood; step-daughters, Kristy Marie Ledford and Casey Lynn Teague; sisters, Margaret Guerra and Jackie Liles.  Also surviving are her loving grandchildren. 

The family will receive friends Thursday, September 18, 2014 at Hockaday Funeral & Cremtion Service from 5-7 pm.  Pastor Jeff Sagala will conduct funeral services in the chapel at Hockaday, Friday, September 19, 2014 at 11:00 am.  Burial will follow at Crestview Memorial Cemetery.

James Kenneth, “J.K.” Elliott, 61, of Roanoke Rapids, passed away on Thursday, September 18, 2014.  He is the son of Virginia Leanos Elliott of Norfolk, VA and the late Clayton Homer Elliott, Jr. 

He is survived by his wife, Marianne Lyles Elliott; daughter, Lindsey Lyles Goble and her husband, Thomas of Roanoke Rapids; son James Colby Lyles of Roanoke Rapids; mother, Virginia Leanos Elliott of Norfolk, VA; brother, Clayton “Butch” Homer Elliott, III of Norfolk, VA; godchildren, Alexandra “Lexi” Renesis of Virginia Beach, VA, Stephanie Mazarakis Zaller of Norfolk, VA, Joseph Pappas of Potomac, MD; mothers in law, Lizzie Carroll of Roanoke Rapids, and Lorene Lyles of Roanoke Rapids; sisters in law, Judith Gardner of Raleigh, Honour “Deedee” McKenzie and husband Paul of St. Petersburg, FL, Jamie Harper and husband Landon of Raleigh, Sloan Carroll of Raleigh, Kay Plyer and husband Tim of Henrico; brother in law, Mike Lyles and wife, Marlene of Roanoke Rapids; aunts, Elizabeth “Liz” Alexopolas and Helen Snyder, both of Annapolis, MD; uncle, Gus Leanos and wife, Helene of Annapolis, MD; many cousins and several nieces and nephews.  

Funeral Services will be held on Sunday, September 21, 2014, at 2:00 pm at Rosemary United Methodist Church officiated by Rev. Bob Redmond and are being handled by Askew Funeral and Cremation Services.  

Interment will follow in Cedarwood Cemetery in Roanoke Rapids. 

The family will receive friends immediately after the committal service at Chockoyotte Country Club for a Celebration of Life.

Thomas 'Tommy' Eugene Jones

Thomas “Tommy” Eugene Jones, 72, died Sunday September 14, 2014 at his home.  

Tommy was born September 12, 1942 in Halifax County to the late Samuel Thomas and Fannie Turner Jones.  

He was a welder by trade until becoming disabled in 1989.  

He loved working on his cars and hot rod trucks.  

He was a loving father, grandfather and good friend to all.  

In addition to his parents he is preceded in death by his daughter Angela Jean Jones and a sister Ruby Jones Craven.

Tommy is survived by his daughter Jeanna Jones Dunlow of Roanoke Rapids; his son Timothy Eugene Jones of Clemmons, NC; his grandchildren Morgan Paige Dunlow and Hayley Daryl Dunlow, both of Roanoke Rapids and Joseph Eugene Jones of Clemmons, NC; his nephew Michael T. Jones of Roanoke Rapids; and a very special friend Marie Nowell of Darlington.

Graveside services will be held Friday, September, 19, 2014 at 2:00 PM at Cedarwood Cemetery.

James Donald Barber

James Donald Barber age 78 of Roanoke Rapids, NC passed away on September 18, 2014 at his home surrounded by his loving family.

James was born December 7, 1935 in Martin County North Carolina the son of the late James Arthur Barber and Rena Wilkinson Barber.

James was also preceded in death by his wife Theresa Roberta Verra Barber and three brothers Bobby, Frank and Marvin Barber, also his grandmother Gertrude Griffin.

James was retired from the Department of Corrections. 

Survivors include his two sons; Gene Donald Barber (Debra) of Roanoke Rapids, NC and James Arthur Eric Barber of Roanoke Rapids, NC; His two daughters Theresa Walters of Littleton, NC and Lisa Renee Simmons (Ricky) of Skippers, VA; His nine grandchildren Christopher Barber, Lance Barber, Casey Barber, Ashley Walters, Holly Walters, Zack Walters, Elizabeth Simmons, Erica Barber and Haley Barber; Five great-grandchildren and two brothers, Tim Barber (Virginia) of Roanoke Rapids, NC and Kenny Barber of Roanoke Rapids, NC.

Funeral Services will be held Monday, September 22, 2014 at 2:00 P.M. in the chapel of Massey Funeral Home in Roanoke Rapids, NC with Pastor Russ Collins officiating. Burial will follow in Cedarwood Cemetery with Military Honors in Roanoke Rapids, NC.

Gloria Dean Davis, 72, of 326 Madison Street passed away Tuesday, September 23, 2014 at Halifax Regional Medical Center.

Mrs. Davis was born February 19, 1942 in Halifax County to the late Walter Jones and Bessie Starkes Jones.  She was preceded in death by her husband: Donald Ray Davis, Sr.; her children: Arlene Martin, Walter Mooney, Tammy Mooney and Kathy Mooney; several brothers and sisters.

She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother.

She is survived by her children: Michael Mooney and his wife Cyndi, Jeffrey Davis, Donald Davis, Jr., Gary Davis, Larry Davis and his wife Crystal, Tim Davis and his wife Melissa, Donna Davis and her fiancé Jonathan Medlin; her sister: Margaret; fourteen grandchildren and one special grandson Dylan; several great grandchildren.

Graveside services will be held 11:00 A.M. Friday, September 26, 2014 at Cedarwood Cemetery.  The family will receive friends from 6:00 – 8:00 P.M. Thursday, September 25, 2014 at Hockaday Funeral and Cremation Service. The family will meet other times at the home of her daughter at 237 Cedar St. Roanoke Rapids.

Thelma O’Neal Horne, 80, died Thursday, September 25, 2014 at Halifax Regional Medical Center.  

Mrs. Horne was born January 25, 1934 in Cumberland County, N.C. to the late James William O’Neal and Nellie Irene Chavis Paschall.    In addition to her parents she is preceded in death by her husband: Floyd Warren Horne; a daughter: Cheryl Horne; her brother: Billy O’Neal.

She was a longtime member of Bethlehem Baptist Church.  She lived her life to take care of others.

Mrs. Horne is survived by three daughters: Carol Horne Ezell; Donna Cribb and husband Troy, all of Roanoke Rapids; and Shirley Chavis Straight and husband Bill of Berlin Heights, Ohio;  Nine grandchildren: Troy Strickland and wife Kristen; Chris Strickland; Billy Strickland and fiancé Barbie; Kari Ezell; Benjamin Ezell; Emery Cribb; Warren Cribb; Michael Straight; and Andrew Straight and wife Carol; five great-grandchildren, Jonathan, Landen, Tylen, Kaleb, and Nathan; and several nieces and nephews.  

Graveside services will be held Saturday, September 27, 2014 at 11:00 AM at Crestview Memorial Cemetery with Pastor Jordan Willard and Mr. Kenneth Brantley, officiating.  The family will receive friends Friday, September 26, 2014 from 6:00 to 7:30 pm at Hockaday Funeral & Cremation Service.

Phillip Squire Cullom Sr.

Phillip Squire Cullom, Sr., 70, of Roanoke Rapids, passed away on Thursday, September 25, 2014.

 He was the son of the late James (Jimmy) and Anna Keeter Cullom.                    

He was preceded in death by his wife of 49 years, Carnation Cullom; 2 brothers, Jimmy Cullom and Grady Cullom.   

He was a native of Roanoke Rapids and enjoyed hunting and fishing.

Phillip is survived by his son, Phillip Squire Cullom, Jr. of Roanoke Rapids; his brother, Davis Cullom and his wife, Alice of Roanoke Rapids; 2 sisters, Gwen Hubbard and her husband, F.D. of Littleton, Edith Jenkins and her husband, Billy of Littleton; 2 grandsons, Joshua Cullom and his wife, Paula of Roanoke Rapids and Joey Radford of Houston, TX; great grandson, Joshua Cullom, Jr.; his niece, Joanne Smith of Roanoke Rapids; and his nephew, Ronnie Smith of Bailey.

The family will receive friends on Saturday, September 27, 2014 from 7:00 to 8:30 pm at Askew Funeral and Cremation Services.

Funeral Services will be held on Sunday, September 28, 2014 at 2:00 in the chapel of Askew Funeral and Cremation Services, officiated by Rev. Fred Carraway.

Interment will follow at Cedarwood Cemetery in Roanoke Rapids.

Raymond Marlyn Faison

Raymond Marlyn Faison, 82, of Roanoke Rapids, passed away Saturday, September 27, 2014 at Nash UNC Health Care in Rocky Mount. 

Marlyn was born November 20, 1931 in Halifax County.  He was a loving husband, father, Papa, great-granddaddy, uncle and friend.  

He was a charter member of the Davie Volunteer Fire Department, he also served as chairman of the Halifax County HEMSA Board.  

Marlyn retired from North Carolina Natural Gas after 30 years of dedicated service.  He was also a longtime member of Calvary Baptist Church and the Davie Lions Club.  He enjoyed watching sports of all kinds, gardening, spending time with family, and cooking Brunswick Stew, which he was well known for.

In addition to his mother, Mertie Faison, he is preceded in death by several brothers and sisters-in-law; as well as many nieces and nephews.

Marlyn is survived by his wife of 57 years Katherine Stansbury Faison of the home; his daughter Carmen Faison-Brown and husband Ray of Battleboro; his son Jeff Faison and wife Sallie of Roanoke Rapids; his grandsons, Matthew Council and wife Sara of Vaughan; Gregory Council and wife Jessica; Scott Faison and Will Faison all of Roanoke Rapids; his great-granddaughter Claire Elizabeth Council and an expected great-grandson due in March.  He is also survived by his aunt, Alvorado Grooms Pearson; brother-in-law Roy Stansbury; and sisters-in-law Lovell Gray; Bessie Bennett; and Jean Stansbury, and  a number of nieces and nephews and his special companion Precious.

Funeral services will be held Tuesday, September 30, 2014 at 2:00 PM at Hockaday Funeral & Cremation Service with Rev. Randy Martin and Rev. Roy Porter officiating.  Burial will follow in Cedarwood Cemetery.

The family will receive friends Monday, September 29, 2014 from 6:00 to 8:00 PM at the funeral home and all other times at the home of his son.

Mary Fitts Johnson

Mary Fitts Johnson, 94, passed away Saturday, September 27, 2014 at Warren Hills Nursing Home in Warrenton.

She was born September 1, 1920 in Halifax County to the late Oliver and Sallie Fitts.  She was also preceded in death by her brother: Oliver Fitts, Jr.; her sisters: Marjorie Holloway, Mabel Luter, Edith Rawls; her son: David Allen Johnson; her daughter: Martha Hudson.

Mrs. Johnson was an avid cook, author of books, she loved cooking, quilting and crocheting.  She ran Johnson’s General Store in Thelma for many years.  She was a loving mother, grandmother, great grandmother and great great grandmother.

She is survived by her sons: James O. Johnson, Sr. and Harry Johnson and his wife Betty; her grandchildren: James “Buck” Johnson, Tracy Shelburne and her husband James, Tony Johnson, Robert  “ Bobby” Johnson, Laura Alston and her husband Tony, Danny Hudson, Jr. and his wife Christy, Kelly Bryant-Burdick and her husband Gus, Kay Munn and her husband Bobby, James Hudson and his wife Jenny, Harry “Wade” Johnson and his wife Darlene and Kim Poythress and her husband Johnny; her great grandchildren: Chris Norton, Casey Johnson, Jayme Shelburne, Jessica Woodruff, Brittany Johnson, Corey Johnson, David Johnson, Mallory Johnson, Caleb Alston, Emily Alston, Karen Alston, Grace Alston, Brent Hudson, Sean Sturgill, Lisa Pierce, Matthew Johnson, Jarrett Johnson, Jeremy Poythress, Zachary Hudson, Josh Johnson and Ashley Johnson; her great great grandchildren: Jase Shelburne, Jesse Woodruff, Adam Woodruff, Jacob Woodruff, Taylor Woodruff, Adalyn Hudson, Levi Hudson, Austin Sturgill and Madison Sturgill; and many nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held 11:00 A.M. Wednesday, October 1, 2014 at Hockaday Funeral and Cremation Service. Burial will follow in Cedarwood Cemetery. The family will receive friends Tuesday, September 30, 2014 from 6:30 - 8:30 P.M. at the funeral home.

William Talmadge 'Billy' Moore

William Talmadge "Billy" Moore, 85, of Wilmington, formerly of Roanoke Rapids, died Saturday September 27, 2014.

Billy was born in Pelzer, SC to the late Charles Talmadge Moore and Gladys Bradley Moore Etheridge.

He was also preceded in death by his wife of 57 years, Rose Cooksey Moore and his sister Grace McCoy.

He was a member of Rosemary United Methodist Church for many years and was retired from J.P. Stevens. He was an Eagle Scout and was a founding member of Boy Scout Troop 146 that is still in existence. 

He is survived by his sister Tha Jane Park of Winston Salem; niece, Paula M. Brown and her fiancé,  Paul Hayes of Leland, NC; nephew, Charles H. “Chuck” McCLoy and his wife Mimi of Rocky Mount; great niece, Kathryne M. Townsend and her husband, Kevin of Rochester, NY; great nephew, Evan M. Brown of Wilmington, NC.

Funeral Services will be held on Monday, September 29, 2014 at 2:00 pm at Rosemary United Methodist Church with Rev. Bob Redmond officiating.

Interment will follow in Cedarwood Cemetery in Roanoke Rapids.

The family will receive family and friends on Sunday, September 28, 2014 from 4:00 to 5:30 at Askew Funeral and Cremation Services.  

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in his honor to Boy Scout Troop 146, c/o Randy Spence, 317 Pine Drive, Littleton, NC 27850.
